The Western Australian Building Commission has released an update for the transitional provisions of the Building Regulations relating to energy efficiency requirements for additions and alterations to existing dwellings.
What this means is that at present instead of having to rate the whole house for 6 star compliance as you would have to for a new build you are only required to ensure the building fabric complies with the requirements of the 2009 BCA.
The Building Commission are working together with industry to develop an assessment protocol for additions and alterations which will be available to use as an option from 1st May 2014, with a 12 month transitional arrangement to give industry a chance to adapt. On the 1st of May 2015, the option to comply with the 2009 BCA will no longer be available.
